This Pub is Closed Long Term
The Forester has been a public house since the 15th century. The beautiful old thatched building is made from green sandstone. Inside The pub still retains that old world feeling with the large inglenook fireplace, stone walls and original beamed ceilings. Opens on Bank Holiday Mondays.
Active Campaign
The Forester shut in February 2025. The present owners, who had bought it in 2022, initially put it up for sale or letting. In the spring of 2025, they made an application for change of use to residential (PL/2025/05799 - Application for change of use). This was the catalyst for a village group to begin attempts to save it. Advised by Plunkett they began the process of forming a community business society (The Donheads' Community Benefit Society Limited was registered by the FCA on 16th of February). Also through the Parish Council, they applied to have the Forester nominated as an asset of community value. ACV status was granted in November 2025. Since the application for a change of use was made Wiltshire Council have postponed a decision on a number of occasions.
