Cavendish is one of the prettiest villages in Suffolk, renowned for its thatched cottages and picturesque green. The Five Bells is a thatched, single bar pub with fine views across the green. Up to four real ales are sourced nationally. Food supplied by a variety of food vans on a regular basis (see Facebook for details). Winner of local CAMRA Pub of the Season award in Autumn 2025.

Historic Interest

A report in the Ipswich Journal*** on 26 Sep in 1856 states that : "Married, on 11th September, 1856, Mr Robert Smith to Mary Ann, only daughter of Mr John OFFORD of the Bell Inn, Cavendish." A report in the Ipswich Journal**** in June 1880 states that : "Mr Wardley of the Bell Inn applied for an extension in time on the occasion of the annual fair to be held on the 11th June, which was granted." A report in the Ipswich Journal**** in Dec 1880 states that : Died on the 18th, George Wordley, aged 39, landlord of the Five Bells Inn.
