Historic Interest
Called Falcon until approximately 2004 and was a brewery tap from mid-19th century until 1920s when the Falcon Brewery was located behind premises. The Ipswich Journal reported on March 15 in 1800 that: Thursday night (11 March) or early Friday morning, the bureau of Mr WRIGHT, at The Falcon Inn, Ipswich was broke open & £56 in cash & notes stolen by some person or persons unknown. A report in the Ipswich Journal in June 1820 states that: Tuesday last (27th) was married, Mr Bowman, of the Falcon Inn, Ipswich, to Miss Grubb, of Needham Market. A report in the Ipswich Journal on 30 Apr in 1853 states that: To be let for term of years (in consequence of the death of it's members of the firm & the retiring from Business of the surviving partner) The FALCON Brewery - An Old-established Concern...10 - Quarter Brewing Plant...attached is a Capital Inn or Public House called The Falcon, with wine & spirits stores etc. Also several licensed Inns in Ipswich & the neighborhood, well situate & doing a good Trade. Alfred Boman founded his brewery here in 1855. Later Bridges, Cuthbert & Co Ltd owned the Falcon Brewery (5 Falcon St) until it was re-registered as Colchester Brewing Co in 1887. Brewery closed in 1925 & site is now a multi-storey car-park. Called Bowman's from Nov 2010 to Nov 2018. Reopened late October 2018 after renovation, with its historical name restored.
