One of the city's premier real ale establishments offering a wide selection of ales either on hand pump or from a small tap room which can be seen from the bar. It is a friendly and welcoming community pub with many nooks and crannies.
An interesting feature is a red-brick, Second World War Air Raid Shelter, which is accessed via a trap door and down a winding staircase.
No food served, but excellent value homemade meat pies are available, or you can order your takeaway to be delivered to the pub and they will supply plates and cutlery.
BBQ at weekends throughout the Summer, and an annual Beer Festival in August.
