Historic Interest

When it first opened it had two handpumps on the bar often selling Thwaites Bitter, later they went out of use. It closed because it was believed to be the end of the lease, a new bar Oscars opened on Nelson Square instead of renewing the lease. The pub was on the ground floor of Sun Alliance house which was opened in 1971 on the site of the demolished Red Cross pub.
