This basement bar, just off the Strand and Fleet Street, used to be a standalone bar and brewhouse but following the takeover of City Pub Co by Young's, this is now a beer hall and integrated with Daly's Wine Bar upstairs. 11 chilled keg beers are on draught.

The food offering is "hearty, shareable plates bursting with bold, satisfying flavours, perfectly paired with our wide-ranging selection of ice-cold beers".

The previoius rather grungy seating and vibe have been maintained in the makeover.

Historic Interest

The area was formerly Essex House and its grounds, and re-developed in the 1670s and 1680s by entrepreneur Nicholas Barbon. Little from that era survives, with embankment and building in subsequent centuries. Note though that the basement is said to be the original street level.
