This Pub is Permanently Closed
This pub stands on the western fringe of Pontllanfraith and seems to be almost encircled by the busy road system with the main dual-carriageway (A472) skirting its southern boundary while Bryn Road to Pontllanfraith and Blackwood runs past on the other side. Inside the traditional public bar has a pool table, and assorted settles and tables, plus a jukebox. The main action seems to take place in the large lounge. This has a light decor with white walls broken up by strips of dark wood in a medieval pattern. At the rear of the room is an attractive coal burner above which is a striking looking clock. Near the rear exit giving access to the garden and car park is what appears to be a period coat stand. On the bar counter of the lounge is where the handpumps can be found. The landlord is keen on his ales, and there can be up to four on at any time including Brains Rev James and often an ale from the Butcombe stable. Food is no longer available.
