A hidden gem in Bollington at the end of Church Street and now a free house. Nestling in the foot hills of White Nancy this is a modern but very pleasant single room pub that majors on excellent pizza. Serving up to three real ales possibly served by Bungle, the ghost of an ex-landlord (allegedly). Sky Sports are available but don't dominate. The pub runs a cask club whereby an annual membership entitles you to discounted beer on Monday & Wednesday.
To the rear is a lovely beer garden overlooking the hills leading up to White Nancy. The Crown is an excellent starting/ending point for walks in the area. Maybe a leisurely stroll along Ingersley Vale past the old mill & waterfall or a more strenuous climb up White Nancy and along the ridge. Clough Mill along Ingerlesy Vale is of special note as this once housed largest waterwheel in Britain. Unfortunately, a fire in 1999 destroyed most of the mill although the wheelhouse still stands but is hidden behind large doors. There are plans to redevelop but these have stalled. See http://www.happy-valley.org.uk/history/mill-ingersley for more information on the area.
One assumes this was once the favourite haunt of workers from Shrigley Dyers over the road. The factory was knocked down several years ago and replaced with stone faced large apartments but the old mill pond is still present a short walk up the road. The area next door was the site of the last brewery in Bollington, Heaver Brothers until the Bollington Brewing Company opened in 2008.
