This Pub is Permanently Closed

The Coney began serving real ale in 2013. Unfortunately the pub suffered flood damage early in the following year and was closed for many months before eventual reopening in November 2014. Another brief closure followed in 2018, but the pub then reopened.

As of early 2019, real ale was discontinued. Then after the Covid lockdown, the premises reopened as a Turkish restaurant (Smoque) with casual drinking not permitted

Historic Interest

Built and opened in 1935 by the Taylor Walker brewery with its distinctive high pitched roof and tall chimneys, with the intention of serving the new growing suburb of Coney Hall (developed in the 1930s by Morrells builders on former farmland belonging to Coney Hall farm that once existed). It was situated across the road from the Art Deco dance hall, which was intended to be a cinema (later a garage and now Wickes). At some stage, it was renamed the "Manor House" but reverted back to its original name by the early 2000s. Located on Croydon Road, the main Glebe Way was not built until 1956.
