OCT 2024 - WARNING - May not be open very much and unlikely to have real ale. New management taking over in a few weeks time.
AUG 2024 - Was expected to close Sat 24th but has stayed open.
A refurbishment in July 2019 simplified the inside and opened up the windows but no drastic changes were made to the layout and style of the pub.
This tenement bar is popular with locals and office workers. The internal layout is interesting with two private rooms at the rear. A number of historical brewery mirrors and old photos of the pub adorn the main room. Don’t miss the interesting mural on the steep stairs down to the toilets, which shows some former worthies.
Food can be brought in by customers from adjacent take away shops by arrangement.
Children are not admitted.
May close earlier in winter.
One star - A pub interior of special national historic interest
Listed status: Not listed
In the base of a tenement, this basic bar, converted from a shop in 1899, has a high ceiling, good cornices and old dado panelling. Originally the bar counter was circular but changes in the 1960s saw the gantry moved to the right-hand wall and the current bar counter installed. The gantry was subsequently replaced in 1990. A number of mirrors, some of them old, adorn the walls. The two small wood-panelled sitting rooms have seating probably dating from the 1960s, as well as bell-pushes.
This Pub serves 2 changing beers (Maybe only one at quieter times) and 0 regular beers.
