Red brick building built by local Labour Party volunteers between 1925 and 1928 with the costs covered by selling 1,100 £1 shares. The foundation stone was laid in 1926 by Ramsey MacDonald, the first Labour Prime Minister. The club opened in 1928 and finally closed in mid-March 2014. A gym and boxing club have continued to use part of the building since. Planning applications have been submitted to redevelop the site primarily for housing.
