This Pub is Permanently Closed

Converted 15/2/2017 to eight flats. Closed 1/5/2008, it then lay empty for some years after that. Planning Application DC/066527 | Conversion of existing public house and the addition of a three storey rear extension to create 8 no. apartments (1 x One Beds, 7 x Two Beds), along with remedial work to external areas, car parking and associated landscaping (Re-submission of DC061848). Granted 22/9/2017.

History: Prominent and well-maintained former Boddingtons house. Much of the pub’s structure was retained by the flat conversion scheme. It was latterly considered as a building of architectural interest. As a pub it consisted of two rooms separated by a central bar. As the Bow Garrett, it stopped selling cask ale. In its previous guise as the Bulkeley Arms it sold Boddingtons Mild, Bitter, Whitbread Castle Eden Ale, and guest.

Historic Interest

Built as the Bulkeley Arms in 1774, it was rebuilt in its current form in 1898. At that time it was a Richard Clarke & Co of Reddish brewery house. In 1963 their brewery and entire 65 pub estate was acquired by Boddingtons Brewery of Manchester, thus becoming a Boddingtons house in the process. Around 1997 it was later renamed as the Bow Garrett.
