Historic Interest
The pub was listed in John Stotts 1977 Guide to Good Beer in Bolton as selling Greenall Whitley Bitter, Light and Dark Milds (E) , Juke Box, Usually Crowded. It was also listed in April 1977 by Geoff Breakwell as a good Greenall Whitley pub to visit in an article on Bolton Pubs In April 1980 it was listed on a suggested pub crawl of the town centre. It was listed in the selective Greater Manchester Beer Guides of 1980 and 1981.In May 1981 it was a Greenall Whitley pub selling Mild and Bitter (E). In April 1982 it was included in an article about Bolton Town Centre pubs and in May 1982 iHandpumps replaced the electric pumps, this wa unusual at the time with only one other Greenall Whitley pub having them. In November 1983 it was one of the pubs to start selling Greenalls Original and a social was held on the 22nd to sample it. In 1985 and 1986 it was listed in the Good Beer Guide. It was still selling Original in April 1986 but in June 1986 the landlord was noted as leaving, on July 3rd 1986 a pub crawl started here. The pub was included on the town centre pub crawl done the Great North Western Beer Festival in 1987. In September Greenall Whitley were going to convert pub from managed to tenanted as it was believed to be losing money, Phil and Cheryl Chadwick were leaving. By Spring 1988 Mike Halton was the new landlord. A voucher scheme with three other pubs for free drinks was introduced in July 1988, by October a new landlord had arrived and in November 1988 scaffolding was up at the pub which brought speculation that there were structural issues which could lead to the demolition of the pub, of course there were denials all round. The Pub was listed in the 1989 Beer in Bolton Guide as selling Greenall Whitley Mild and Bitter (H). However, by the summer of 1989 the plans were to demolish the pub, build a five storey office block with a new pub on the ground floor. In March 1990 rumours where rife that Holts were going to buy the pub, which with hindsight seems rather unlikely given the structural issues. By October 1990 the Mild had disappeared. In February 1993 it was reported that the Pub which had been closed since March 1992 was to be demolished along with the adjacent properties and replaced with a 4 story office block and no pub on the ground floor. The Planning application was made in December 1993. In Spring 1994 the pub was on the Lost Locals list and was soon to be demolished.
