This Pub is Closed Long Term

This is a traditional 18th century roadside pub (though some parts are considerably older). Sited on a bend on a country road, it presents an inviting aspect to passing motorists. It has numerous cosy drinking areas separated by arches and wooden panelling. The low ceilings, beams and wooden settles add to the intimate atmosphere. The walls are adorned with lots of small prints depicting birds, flowers, fishing and hunting and, in the restaurant area, a map of Olde Cheshire. There are no less than five open fires scattered throughout the building! Football is sometimes watched unobtrusively on a television in the rear room. Dominoes and cribbage are played. You can recline on sunlit bench seating at the front. Food is available all day on Sundays. Wheelchair friendly, although there are no special facilities. All this and it sells one of the cheapest and best beers around!

One star - A pub interior of special national historic interest

Listed status: Not listed

This 18th-century pub retains three snugs at the front and lots of 1930s fittings. That on the left has a lino floor, panelled dado, brick fireplace and two small old benches. The second snug has old fixed benches. The third has an arch, benches, Victorian-style fireplace with log fire and a baffle at one end of the seating. At the rear right the gents' has retains intact 1930s work including three big urinals.
