The original pub and brewery were demolished in 1899 and this superb Victorian building erected to a design by Oxford Town Hall architect H. T. Hare. Renamed as The Big Society in Spring 2013 (the Cowley Road elm trees had all long gone). Now mainly a cocktail and burger bar with games. They serve 'gourmet street food', including the classic cheese burger. Has some beer in keg, cans, and bottles. A cinema was built next door on the site of the brewery in 1910 by Frank Stuart who owned the pub.
Historic Interest
Listed Grade II as is cinema next door.
