Large multi-roomed, canal side pub, taking its name from the historic double-width lock on the adjacent Trent & Mersey Canal. Food is served every day. Outdoor seating at front of pub, alongside the canal, and on a balcony. There is a quiz on Wednesday evenings, bingo on the last Thursday of the month and a cabaret afternoon on the third Wednesday each month. One of two "stack" pubs, built on two levels, in Middlewich. What was the lower level, canal side bar is now a busy coffee shop open from 09:00 until 16:00 daily. The pub is popular in summer months with boaters coming through the town as well as local clientele. It is also a popular venue during the town's annual music festival in June. Timothy Taylor's Landlord is always available alongside one or two other changing cask beers.

The Big Lock is a "stack pub" built on two levels with the lower level originally catering for canal-based trade.
