Delightful hotel situated in the centre of Tavistock, and is open to non-residents. Two ales from Dartmoor are usually available. The food has an excellent local reputation and booking is advised at weekends. Lunch is served daily from 1200 - 1430 Mon - Sun, cream teas from 1500 - 1700 and dinner from 1800 - 2100.

Historic Interest

Grade-II listed 07/09/51, interior and exterior listed. List Entry No 130 9283, Legacy System No 93470. 2. East end circa 1725, west end Mid C19 on the site of the monastic buildings south of the Cloisters of Tavistock Abbey. The east end was built as a dwellinghouse by Jacob Saunders. Two storeys and basement stone ashlar 5 bays. Exterior now has castellated parapets and mullioned and transomed windows converted from the C18 sashes circa 1820. The interior of this part retains an early C18 panelled dining hall and staircase. The west end was added by the Bedford estate when the building was converted into a hotel in the middle of the C19. Three storeys stone ashlar in matching style with crenellated parapet 6 bays and crenellated porch. Some slate- hanging to rear elevation.
