In January 1980 it was reported that it had closed, it reopened on March 31st 1980 as a Thwaites pub selling their Mild and Bitter (H). It was visited on the St Georges Day Pub Crawl in 1981. In May 1981 it was selling Best Mild and Bitter (H). It was mentioned in an article about Bolton town centre pubs in April 1982. In February 1985 it was mentioned that it was now doing better as a Thwaites pub rather than a Greenall Whitley one. The Xmas pub crawl visited here on December 8th 1985.In Spring 1987 it was included on the town centre pub crawl for the Great North western Beer Festival. A pub Crawl on July 3rd 1988 finished here. The Pub was listed in the 1989 Beer in Bolton Guide as selling Thwaites Bitter and Best Mild (H). The following year it was called the Independence Day Pub Crawl and it visited here on July 4th. In July 1990 the Pub had lost its licence after being found to be at the centre of a shoplifting ring. However it did regain its licence and was featured in the Great North Western Beer Festival programme of 1992. It was mentioned in an article in December 1993 as selling Thwaites Mild and Bitter.
