Once owned by Wem Brewery, also by Wrekin Brewery of Wellington, the Anchor is a traditional one roomed pub conveniently placed opposite Theatre Severn. The pleasant front area has a mixture of exposed brickwork and wood panelling. At the other end of the bar is a small lounge area with comfy seating and a darts area. There are several TVs showing music/sport dotted around the pub. Has four handpumps, but often only three are in use. Guest beers are not always available.
Historic Interest
Openein 1780 as The Anchor, by 1856 reffered to as the Old Anchor. The Anchor was in danger of going out of business at the turn of the century following repeated flooding of the nearby River Severn. However, the erection of flood barriers in 2003 has alleviated the situation, and trade would have gained a boost thanks to the Theatre, which opened in 2009.
This Pub serves no changing beers and 3 regular beers.
