Brunning & Price pub on the quayside by the River Severn. The interior is cavernous with bare floorboards and wooden furniture. One handpump dispenses a house beer from Brightside Brewery, the other seven dispense beers come from breweries near and far. Although geared towards dining, it is more than welcoming to those in search of liquid refreshment with stools at the bar. It is always busy, but service is efficient. Some beers are a little expensive by local standards. Often, though not always free of background music. Cider from the box from varying suppliers is available during summer months.
Foodwise, a light menu of "elevenses" is served from 10am - noon with the main menu available thereafter. It is advisable to book ahead for food.
Reopened on 2/8/24 following a lick of paint and spruce up. There are no discernible changes to the pub itself.
Historic Interest
The building itself has an interesting history. A purpose-built armoury, it originally stood in an area near the Column (still called Armoury Gardens) until 1919 when it was bought by the bakers Morris's, at a time when building materials were in short supply post WW1. They moved it to its present location for use as a bakery. The buildings demolished to make room included an old pub, the Quarry Inn, known to have been on this site (1874-1916). In 1995 the upper floor was sold as office space, while the ground floor was bought by the current owners and converted into a bar, looking much as it does now.
