The Anchor & Hope traded until 1953 when it was demolished (along with the rest of the terrace) because of the appearance of sink holes in the area. It stood opposite The Chequers, and the site is now a public open space. Known to have been trading in 1871, The Anchor & Hope appears to have been part of the Kidd's brewery tied estate, and would therefore have passed to Courage when the former brewery was taken over in 1937.
