The licence was refused and compensation of £500 paid in 1914 The licensee at the time was Thomas Parrington but he had only been in the pub for a couple of years. The licensee in the early 20th century was Joseph Woodus who died in 1911 when the pub was taken over by his Mrs Elizabeth Lycett.
