This popular pub just outside the city centre has a very smart yet comfortable interior with a large main bar and a more intimate area at the back. The new owner is a company called Just Pubs.

An internal refurb took place autumn 2025 ,fixing damaged and worn fittings and upgrading the cellar.

The major work has been on the function room upstairs, which has had a new bar fitted.

There are still five handpumps with four in use at time of visit in November 2015, three Wensleydale beers and one Marstons Wainwrights Gold. Confirmed it is cask. There are several TV screens both inside and outside, which is large drinking area There is an ample pay car park (ask for a voucher from the staff before paying.). Meals all day with breakfast till noon. There is a designated dog friendly area.

About 15 mins walk to Millfield or University Metro Stations

Historic Interest

First built as a vicarage in 1869, then converted to a pub in 1954
