Dating back to 1885, the pub was tastefully and extensively renovated when reopened by Jarrow Brewery in 2011, after lying dormant for over two years. A long and narrow wood, chrome and glass bar holds seven handpulls serving up to five changing ales, plus two ciders. There is a long narrow lounge opposite the main bar. Upstairs is the Vaux Room for additional seating at weekends. Pub photographs abound throughout the pub, both upstairs and downstairs. There is a Monday night quiz and occasional weekend music nights are held upstairs.
There is a Wild Fire Pizza menu available Tuesday - Sunday
The pub is home to The Wear Beer Micro Brewery.
