Originally built as a hotel in about 1880 and owned by Folliotts Brewery of Salisbury, it was sold on to Ushers in the late 1920s and remained in their hands until bought by John Gilbert in September 1986. A small brewery was installed in 1987 (4-barrel plant) but in 1992 expansion necessitated a move to larger premises in Downton. Well-known pub with one long bar which has a small 'front room'. An enviable pub with unusual people from all walks of life and all ages having one thing in common - they enjoy a good pint! Six handpumps serve a selection of Hop Back ales, normally Taiphoon in summer and Entire stout alternates in winter, alongside their seasonal offerings. There is also a fine selection of bottled beers and wines. Two small rooms, off the main bar area, provide quiet space and seating. This is a pub for conversation, good natured banter and fine ales.
