Community Owned
Freehold Owner: Private Limited Company (1). Year Purchased 2023.
The pub closed in Dec 2014, and was sold by McMullen to a developer in 2015, but a series of planning applications for up to 10 homes on the plot were rejected by East Herts District Council after substantial and organised objections to the planning applications by the villagers. In 2022 a deal was struck with the developer that saw locals support a smaller housing scheme on part of the pub's land in return for the opportunity to purchase the building, car park and a small garden. Over 80 residents of Aston are now shareholders in Rose & Crown Aston Ltd. The community group found a tenant to run the pub, and reopened in October 2024.
This Pub serves 2 changing beers and 1 regular beer.
