White Lyon, Lymington

An 18th-century grade II listed building that we believe was originally called the White Lyon but had been renamed the Red Lion by the time it was listed in 1953.

The pub remained as the Red Lion until 1995 when we reported in September's Hop Press that 'After a major refurbishment, which has involved exposing original beams and carvings around the windows, this Grade II listed building is now again the White Lyon.'

In April 1998 Hop Press we reported that a planning application to convert the first floor into flats had been refused but by September we reported that it had become Café (or Caffe) Uno, ending its career as a pub.

Much later we listed it as Brasserie Gerard in the New Forest Pub Guide (2010) but as a French restaurant, and subsequent establishments have included La Viña and Koh Thai Tapas.
