A welcoming local set back from the road through the village, with a single L-shaped room warmed by open fires at both ends. Dating from 1799, the bar is guarded by a sleeping fox who always seems to have just closed his eyes. There are benches to the left of the bar, and seating outside offering pleasant views over the Wear valley. The decor includes the unique Weardale Hare.
