The bar is open to non residents, hence the category as a pub and not a hotel.

Much-extended to incorporate a "boutique" hotel, but still retaining a cask beer bar open to the public. There's a modern outside terrace with fantastic sea views!

Regular Sunday evening (free) Jazz nights feature top names such as Gilad Atzmon, Toni Kofi and Jim Mullen. See Jazz East for gig listings.

Historic Interest

The 1904 Woodbridge licensing records show that the Fludyer's license was issued in 1853. Whether this was when it was first licensed or when it got a full (ie not just beer) license isn't clear, though the latter seems more probable. A report in the Ipswich Journal** on 29 May in 1811 states that : To be sold by Auction on 10th June, 1811, All those delightful Premises, the Property & Residence of Sir Samuel FLUDYER, BART, situate on the Sea Shore of Felixstowe...(Property description)...NOTE: NO REFERENCE TO AN INN BUT COULD THIS BE THE SAME LOCATION AS THE FLUDYER'S ARMS? There was a earlier building of a wooden structure that had the same name & dated back to 1839 or earlier which stood to the left of site. The current building was erected in 1903 to replace it. A report in the Ipswich Journal** on 28 Sep in 1861 states that : Auction of The Fludyer Arms Inn, Felixstowe, advantageously placed upon the beach & well-accustomed (No owner/occupier noted) A paperback book published in 1969, called "Inns of the Suffolk Coast" by Leonard P Thompson** contains the following extract: The Fludyer Hotel, Felixstowe There was a small, wooden building on the beach known as Smith's after the name of the proprietor, William Smith. It was the original Fludyer's Arms & also Felixstowe's Post Office. Gradually the sea encroached & for several years it stood within a few feet of high tide. The Hotel of today was built in 1903. Current building dates from 1903 (see history) Closed at the beginning of October 2011, for conversion into a "boutique" hotel.
