This Pub is Permanently Closed
The Phoenix was located north of the town centre alongside the River Darent in an area formerly known as Waterside. It has been traced back as far as 1835 when it operated as a beer house. The building itself may have dated from the 18th century, although the frontage was Victorian.
The pub was owned successively by the local Miskin and Kidd's breweries, and for much of the 20th century it operated as a Courage tied house after a succession of takeovers. Sadly it closed in 2011, having been on a downward spiral for several years beforehand, and has since been demolished.
