This Pub is Permanently Closed

The Pier Hotel traded from 1831 to 2016. There had been a pub on the site previously (The Christopher, 1445-1828). The Pier is known to have been part of the tied estate of local brewers Walker's, before it passed to Charrington's on takeover in 1904. During the 1980s it was the home of the Hilton Brewery, notable for its wide range of non-session beers!

Sadly the pub endured several periods of closure in the early 21st century, before ending its days having traded as 'Middle Ei8ht' from 2013 to 2016. It is currently (12/23) a gaming cafe. We can only hope that this is not necessarily the end of the Pier!
