In 1848, the pub was owned by Joseph Swinburne and the Occupier was Arthur Cooke.
A superb Grade II listed black and white building dating back to 1615, when it was known as the Boars Head. Extended 18C, 19C and late 20C.
It is worth a visit just to see it. Whilst it is a hotel with an upmarket restaurant, non residents are most welcome to the bar and restaurant . There is an outside cobbled area with "parasols", a delightful setting to sup a pint on a warm summer's evening and feel at peace with the world.
It's good to see cask ale in a hotel.
