This is a comfortable and welcoming country pub, run by the same couple since May 1988! It has an impressive vault with wood panelling and red leather bench seating, a lounge with real fire and a separate dining room with log burner. There is a particularly varied array of ornaments adorning the walls, including framed railway buttons and badges, pictures and photographs, many of course with a railway theme, plates, stone jars and bottles, horse brasses and books. The pub is yards from Mobberley Station and the final 'Railway' connection is provided by a full-size semaphore signal in the car park. Very much a community pub with lots of teams including no fewer than nine bowling teams who use the green that was added in 1987. The beer garden includes a children's play area and the proximity of Manchester Airport gives an impressive view of the airliners arriving or departing. A golf society and darts and dominoes teams complete the games scene. A charity is nominated each year and events plus a book-swapping shelf raise almost a thousand pounds a year. Cheshire-brewed ales feature, with Dunham Massey typically providing Big Tree or Little Bollington. The guest pumps tend to rotate through local micros, with Wincle, Tatton and Storm being frequently seen. Freshly cooked meals are served daily. There is a baby changing facility and there is level access throughout the pub.
