A popular country pub, with a deserved reputation for good pub food (booking is advisable, but there is usually spare space for walk-ins, though you may have a short wait). The Greyhound still retains the feel of a village local by maintaining three distinct areas around the bar with different focuses; a snug area with games (darts, dominoes &c.), a lively area around the bar counter and a slightly secluded area for casual dining or events. This is complimented by a separate restaurant. There are three fires in the pub, two of them real. Being a country pub on the northern edge of Cheshire, it is popular with walkers and cyclists as well as the locals and regulars. It has fortnightly quiz nights and occasionally has live singers. There is a smoking area outside adjacent to the large car park, which also hosts the village defibrillator. There are six handpumps dispensing three J W Lees beers, one of which is the seasonal offering. Pedestrians can come in through the front door (mind the cobbles). Wheelchair users will find it much easier to enter through the north side door, which has a ramped access from the car park. In good weather there is a sizeable beer garden outside the restaurant; this also has ramped access from there. The pub is notable for being very dog-friendly, with water bowls, blankets and a doggy bar available, plus gourmet doggy snacks behind the bar. Please note that the restaurant though is strictly dog free. The Greyhound also supports the local church as well as other social and charitable events, and is assuredly the centre of village life.
