The Miners Arms was once a simple roadside beerhouse which has been extended and 'improved' over the years. In July 1993 the Miners became the unofficial tap house of the Freeminer Brewery which Don Burgess had set up at the nearby Laurels Business Park in Sling in October 1992. The pub was then described by CAMRA as a "basic one-bar pub." A restaurant and four letting rooms had been added to the pub by the year 2000, and the revamped Miners Country Inn became known for its cuisine. It was awarded two AA rosettes for food excellence in May 2017. A popular "pot luck" feature was introduced on Mondays when everything on the menu was half price. This initiaive was incredibly popular with up to 100 customers tempted by the "pot luck" menu. The original bar area at the front of the pub was retained but with tables permanately laid out with cutlery and condiments, the emphasis solely on dining. There were usually two real ales on offer. It was rebranded simply as the Miners in its last incarnation before unexpectedly closing just before Christmas 2025, illness being the reason given. The Miners is currently boarded up (as of April 2026) with an uncertain future.
