The first purpose-built pub on the Harold Hill estate opened on 27 June 1955. This was a Courage Brewery pub, leased from the London County Council. In November 2023 was named as one of the top 5 London sports pubs in a study compiled for Currys! Shellfish King runs a stall outside the pub on Saturdays and Sundays.
Historic Interest
The first landlord was 42 year old ex-Flying Squad Detective Sergeant, Albert Herron who ran the pub with his wife, Ivy.
