Golden Fleece, Nottingham

The Golden Fleece is a Grade II Listed Building (No. 1254759) in Nottingham City Council's Arboretum Conservation Area.Purpose built as a pub circa 1845, it is a former Shipstone's tie. In 1868, the Golden Fleece was a fully licensed establishment under publican William Smedley. The pub has three levels of cellars beneath the pub and an idea of how deep these run is given by a glass floor panel over the old barrel drop cut into the floor [YAT MC10, "Quite Interesting"]. Historic England states: "Public house. c1845, altered mid C20, restored late C20. Red brick, with ashlar and brick dressings and gabled and hipped slate roof. Single gable and ridge stacks. Glazed brick plinth, ground floor impost band, wooden eaves cornice. Windows are mainly original glazing bar sashes. 3 storeys; 2 x 2 bays. Corner site with rounded corner entrance bay. Ground floor has corner doorway flanked on each return by casement windows under a fascia and lamps, all late C20. On the first floor, a large curved corner window, flanked to left by 2 windows with cast-iron balconies, and to right by a blank and another window. Above, a blank at the corner, and 2 small windows to each return. All these windows have brick flat arches. INTERIOR: refitted mid and late C20, has few original features." As at November 2017, the freehold for the Golden Fleece (NT341769) was held by Punch Patnerships (PML) Limited [Reg. No. 3321199] and was transferred to Patron Capital on the 5th March 2018. The leasehold in November 2017 was held by Underdog Bars Limited (Reg. No. 8309958), whose registered office was given as the Golden Fleece.
