Having traded under several guises in the past, a new wind swept through these premises with the arrival of the former Mad Dog Brewery in June 2018. While some of its neighbours may feel shackled by pub company beer range restrictions, the fetters (or should that be the leash?) are off here. Step inside and find basic furniture with tables fashioned from old pallets and many seats made from former firkin casks with cushioned tops for comfort. This is a no frills open plan bar offering a range of contemporary drinks, including vegan and gluten free beers, that has rejuvenated the local drinking scene. Cider isn’t forgotten either with some refreshing products from the likes of Broadoak or local maker Palmers in draught or bag-in-the-box form. Entertainment comes in the form of a quiz every other Wednesday, karaoke (Thursday), live bands (Saturday), and open mic (Sunday) while occasional special events are held. Distance to the bus stop is correct for northbound (Cwmbran, Monmouth) buses, for south/city bound services to Newport walk down to the Hanbury Arms (300 metres).
