The last remaining pub in this village which once had five more. It has an unusual layout, and a room named after Oliver Cromwell where he is reputed to have kept prisoners, who illustrated the walls with their feelings at the time! This is now hidden behind removable panels. Guest ales often include Nethergate and Essex-brewed beers. This pub is the focus of village social activities.
