Originally a coaching inn on the York to Edinburgh highway, but actually named after a barge that navigated the River Derwent to its highest point. Ideally situated in the centre of the Vale of Pickering and reasonably close to the coast, York, the Wolds and the North Yorkshire Moors National Park. There is a large main bar and separate restaurant. This establishment has always had a reputation for excellent freshly cooked food and a warm and friendly atmosphere. The pub is attached to a large camp site with facilities for tents, caravans and motor homes. Smokers and drinkers can avail themselves of the partially covered beer garden at the rear. There is also a well equipped childrens' play area to the rear. The Providence boasts several "day-time" ghosts (heard but not seen).
This Pub serves no changing beers and 1 regular beer.
