Attractive, 16th century Cotswold stone pub, situated in reputedly Britain's most haunted village. Photo of the "Ghost of the Black Abbot" hanging in the lounge bar. Two bars, one with a dining area, recently doubled in size (until 9pm). Popular with race goers, especially during Gold Cup week, being the closest pub to the racecourse, which is reflected in the collection of equine prints. There is free off-road parking opposite.

Beers are from the Butcombe range. The food is primarily home made (notably the desserts) and includes cheeses from a local producer. A large rear garden leads to a skittle alley/function room called the Pavilion. A cider festival is held in August.

Closest bus is the N but the more frequent A serves the village so a slightly longer walk.
