Historic Interest
Built in 1816 and believed to have been the first pub in the town and provided accommodation to the first cadets at the Royal Military College. The pub was named after Prince Frederick, son of George III, who was commander of the British Army when the Royal Military College, which became the Sandhurst Royal Military Academy, was founded. In 1858, residents of ‘York Town’ and Blackwater met in the pub to discuss forming a company to light the towns with gas. They hammered out the terms of a deal and formed the Blackwater Gas and Coke Company.
