A traditional country pub serving 1 or 2 cask ales, it retains a small snug bar at the centre of the pub which is flanked by two rooms predominantly used for dining.
Reopened on 29 July 2024 having been closed on 4 May 2024 while the Brakspear Pub Co sought new tenants.
The new tenants, Richard and Sam Grant, have renovated the garden to make an extensive, but lovely and inviting outdoor space. In addition to the main kitchen, a shepherd's hut has been installed in the garden to provide street food such as pizzas, tacos, burgers and fish and chips to customers and for takeaways, during the summer months. There is also a newly refurbished and very welcoming courtyard space, with lots of attractive planters and outdoor decoration. Food from the main kitchen is of a very good restaurant quality, not huge, but still wide-ranging menu, all cooked from fresh, and at reasonable prices. To start with the pub will be serving cask Brakspear Gravity and Oxford Gold, but will review if they can add a further cask ale in the future.
The pub opens at 10.30am on Friday and Saturday selling coffee and a range of cakes and pastries.
Situated next door to the church, the Maltsters Arms was formerly known as the Shovel and Broom and dates from at least 1779. Ideally located for nearby National Trust Greys Court and walks in hills and woodland.
