This Pub is Permanently Closed

The White Hart closed around 1-Oct-14. A Fire Safety Audit revealed that several thousand pounds would have to be spent to bring it up to date. The business would not generate enough money to justify this expenditure. Several local old timers will be missing their watering hole. Popular ramblers pub, which used to be owned by Wadworth Brewery. Purchased by the present owner in the 1990s - now a free house. The small public bar has its own outside entrance, which may suggest several cottages were converted into a pub.

Historic Interest

First mentioned as the White Hart in the 1889 Kelly's directory. Previous entries mention the 'Mompesson Arms' as the village pub. The two may be one and the same.
