The Calder Vale Hotel, brewery tap for the Luddite Brewing Company, is a craft brew pub with the six brewer’s barrel brewery actually in the building. When time allows, the owners are happy to give informal tours. A core range of six Luddite hand-pulled ales (mild, bitter, stout, IPA, pale and lite) are usually on the bar with support from Luddite’s ever changing specials. Occasional guest beers showcase other small, local breweries. Local craft suppliers are used to provide soft drinks, spirits and food including the award winning range of Luddite Pies served at the weekly ‘Friday Night is Pie Night!’ The Calder Vale is a mid-Victorian commercial hotel, lovingly restored to highlight local industrial heritage and to retain its original features and ambience. Year-round Sunday Music Sessions are staged, some outside in the summer in the delightful Hop Garden. There’s also a monthly ‘Comedy at the Calder’ starring the UK’s top stand-up talent and held in a classic upstairs function room. Luddite Brewing is closed on Mondays, brewing takes place from Tuesday to Thursday and the Calder Vale opens from Friday to Sunday.
