Historic Interest

Burns Cottage Hotel recorded at 1 St Anne Street from 1850 (listed in Bagshaw's Directory in that year) until at least 1864. Full license granted to Duke of Connaught in 1881, a Higsons pub bought by Peter Walker in 1912, The photos show the pub in 1958 after the building of Eldon and Oak Gardens flats (in one photo showing the Clarendon Hotel further in the background). Closed 3 January 1965 and demolished.
