This Pub is Closed Long Term

In July 2020 reported that planning permission applied for to demolish the building and replace it with a new hotel. Planning permission for the new hotel refused in 2021. Rumours in May 2025 that the pub is to reopen in Summer 2025.

Historic Interest

The hotel opened in 1865, an imposing Victorian building in a seafront location overlooking Marine Promenade, The hotel bar, later known as the Stage Door Tap, was tied to Higsns in the 1980s but later operated as a free house selling a range of regional real ales until the business closed on 25 March 2019.
