This Pub is Permanently Closed
Built in 1921-2, this pub replaced two previous Merlin's Caves but on a slightly different site. The new pub was designed by F. G. Newnham for Barclay Perkins. Another room, for dance or concert use, was added to the rear in 1924–5. It was ran as a cafe as an experiment as a response to the temperance movement. It was known for live jazz from the 60s until it closed in 1994. Demolished a couple of years later, the replacement building was named Merlin's Court,
