The Ivy House Beer Fest is back and bigger than ever next weekend (May 15-17) with 40+ guest beers & ciders (listed below), plus three days of totally free live music.Ivy House Beer Fest at The Ivy House, London’s first community owned pub, has quickly become a springtime staple of the Nunhead / Peckham community. This year’s music lineup features, on Friday 15th May, London’s greatest showman Matthew Ryan Thomas, whose commitment to dizzying showmanship and the suspension of one’s disbelief is what makes the invitation to his ‘wee world’ all the more enticing. He’s joined by indie-pop royalty Garden Centre - the project of songwriter Max Levy who plumbs surreal meaning from life’s peculiarities and regularities, and will be joined by his full band (featuring members of Porridge Radio & The Tubs), plus Animal Soup, who marry the arch posturing of contemporary indie and the spirit of 90s alt rock, with the trash and camp of y2k poptimism, and the harmonic language of música popular brasileira. On Saturday 16th May we welcome Steely Dan 2, a 9-piece love letter to our favourite yacht rock heroes.

On Saturday 16th May we welcome Steely Dan 2, a 9-piece love letter to our favourite yacht rock heroes. Enmeshed by an enduring infatuation with the eclectic and timeless grooves of Steely Dan, this motley hive-mind of intrepid musicians will blast through the sharpest avenue of the discography. They have promised us The Hits. They follow Sinatra... Lives! - A Tribute to Frank Sinatra which features many of The Ivy House’s favourites faces, past and present. This will be very, very special.
Earlier in the day we are joined by some of South London’s most exciting and crucial young voices; melodic-punk-two-piece Scrounge, whirling post-punk quintet Flytrap, plus the euphoric bedroom pop of tall child and the introspective emo of Free Lunch.
Beer Fest wraps up on Sunday May 17th with New Orleans (by way of Nunhead) jazz outfit Doolally Tap, whose monthly Sunday slots here have become stuff of local legend. They’re followed by a Bring-Your-Own-Vinyl Open Decks wherein the audience take over our soundsystem for the evening. Time to dust off the deep cuts.
