Inevitably known locally as the Mucky Duck, this popular Grade II listed mid-terrace pub dates back to the late 18th century and overlooks the Trent & Mersey Canal / Coventry Canal junction.
There is a cosy public bar, with an open fire, and a smaller lounge on opposite sides of a central serving area, plus a 'cellar room', with a vaulted brick ceiling, beyond the lounge (5 steps down). A former cellar room, accessible at the rear, has recently been converted into a function room.
Wide range of traditional pub food (snack to full meals), plus children's menu and specials board. Steak night Thursday. Ice cream parlour at front in summer.
Bikers night Wednesday.
Walkers, cyclists, boaters and gongoozlers welcome.
Nearest bus services pass through Fradley village, about 2km distant on foot.
Historic Interest
Built in the 1770s, along with the adjacent warehouse, while the Trent & Mersey Canal was under construction. The latter opened in 1777, and the Coventry Canal link was completed later in 1789. Much of the local settlement was established in the 1790s. No information on early ownership, but it is thought to have been an Ansells pub for much of 20th-century (see pub sign). Any subsequent ownership is unclear until late 2006 when it was bought by Moorgate Taverns. The latter went into administration in late 2009; Everards are believed to have bought the pub in 2011.
